Juan continue learning with Scott Petersen, a former cowboy and Anthropologist who now runs Refugio Altiplano, an upmarket lodge an hour’s speedboat ride away from Iquitos. Once in the lodge, Juan delves deeper into the world of ayahuasca. He lives in a tree house, swims in the rivers and goes on a strict shamanic diet. He is taught about healing plants and sacred medicine by a shaman named Mauro Huatoto, a herbalist doctor who tends Scott’s extensive botanical garden. Juan also learns how to cook the different types of Ayahuasca from Scott.
