This work records the negative image of the artist’s eye responding to a reading from James Joyce’s Ulysses. The passage concerns the poet character, Stephen Dedalus taking a walk on Sandymount Strand whilst considering blindness. The text is full of sensual references, particularly to sound and touch, highlighting the possible experiences of the poet’s journey. A second voice represents the character; ‘Madeline the mare’ whose company Stephen yearns for.
