This video offers a dramatization of work performed by Caesar, the enslaved miller of Philipsburg Manor Upper Mills, and his young apprentice. A miller like Caesar could spend ten hours a day grinding grain. Caesar’s skills made the mill profitable, yet only his enslaver, Adolph Philipse, benefited from his knowledge and intense labor.
