A collaboration between Poet and Professor Lyrae Van Clief-Stefanon and filmmaker Sue Perlgut
Other Powers: Trauma Survivors Reclaim Joy, is a collaboration that includes Cornell faculty, students, and women from the larger Ithaca community, and focuses on inventive explorations of different cultural and intersectional experiences of trauma and healing. “Come celebrate with me that every day something has tried to kill me and has failed,” Lucille Clifton writes in her groundbreaking collection The Book of Light. What would such a celebration entail? Through two poetry workshops Professor and Poet Lyrae Van Clief-Stefanon helped women identify and write about trauma, survival, and joy. Working with community partner/filmmaker Sue Perlgut of CloseToHome Productions, they documented the workshops, interviewed participants about the impact of the workshop including their creative output, and plan to create a multimedia presentation to be screened at Cornell and in downtown Ithaca at Cinemapolis and other venues in the spring of 2019.
