The Churuco monkey has a very important role in the regeneration of forests and is a key species for the composition and function of ecosystems in the Amazon.
An important part of the territory of these monkeys is the Department of the Amazon, located in the extreme south of Colombia. Its capital city is Leticia.
Like the Churuco and the Capuchin, many other species are bought and sold alive or dead, on the black market.
To combat this threat to biodiversity, several institutions from the countries involved are joining forces.
Environmental authorities and security forces of Colombia, Brazil and Peru met in Leticia to hold an operational workshop that trained the agents involved in this work.
