Tracings was inspired by choreographer Dana Tai Soon Burgess's own family history, which dates back to the first Korean immigrants who arrived by ship to Hawaii in 1903 to work the sugar and pineapple plantations. Depicting a family's journey from Korea to the New World, Tracings is rooted in a specific moment in American history but touches on issues familiar to all immigrants to America: journeys, belonging, and the bridging of cultures.
