Welcome to manipulate, Puppet Animation Scotland’s annual festival that celebrates and promotes puppetry, visual theatre and animated films to its audiences.
The festival will present national and international work from leading theatre artists and film-makers to present 23 performances and 21 animated films. The festival is taking place in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Paisley, Perth and Norwich.
Come and experience something out of the ordinary. All of our Snapshots and Testroom works in progress will be BSL interpreted – our popular series where Scottish-based theatre makers present a flavour of their current explorations at the Traverse Theatre. Coming back for a second year is our Clown Cabaret Special Edition, a fully BSL integrated evening with some of Scotland’s finest clowns. Allow them to test their funny upon your frown!
Are you a theatre-maker looking to engage in sector-wide conversations? Come to our BSL interpreted seminar on Tuesday 5 February at Traverse Theatre where we will be interrogating and visioning practical initiatives for people who are passionate about the future of the sector.
As manipulate hosts visual theatre work, some shows have a visual narrative and little to no spoken dialogue. In particular Vu, Transmographiles, Void and Invisible Lands. You can expect to see a man eating a sweet and making a cup of tea, a re-making of a cult classic novel, hands that morph into animals and small figurines of refugees taking a journey across the human body.
The festival is from 2 February – 9 February 2019. Ticket prices vary. For more information on accessible performances and access to venues, please visit http://www.manipulatefestival.org/access
Join us for an exciting programme of Scottish and international visual and physical theatre, puppetry, object manipulation and animated film. We look forward to seeing you.
