A tour of Turkey: July 2011.
This movie begins with a visit to the Red Valley (Devrent Valley) in Cappadocia. The fairy chimneys and other natural rock formations in the valley form a spectacular multicoloured landscape, with some of the formations suggesting the shapes of animals and birds.
We next visited a medieval caravanserai nearby which is now used as a restaurant, and it also houses a display of old costumes and other artifacts.
Finally we visted the Göreme Open Air Museum which is also situated in the same region in a moonscape volcanic valley. Göreme was first settled in the Roman period and later became a monastic centre between 300-1200 AD. Monasteries and churches were hewn into the soft volcanic tufa rock, and some of them have well-preserved frescoes inside.
I made this movie from stills taken with my Panasonic SD800 camcorder.
