This work revisits the narrative of the ‘the little mermaid’ by Hans Christian Andersson. I was interested how the story reflects a current understanding of gender, sexuality and desire in regards to ideas about femininity. In the original story the mermaid exchanged her voice in order to have legs, which allows her to be with the man she loved. In the video the mermaid is given a stage to speak her last words. But, confronted with the impossibility of her situation she doesn’t know what to say and can only express her self by blowing bubbles.
