Idea Architects is sponsoring a School4Freedom in northern India that will help 165 villagers come to freedom from slavery in just three years.
Education is the catalyst for sustainable change. Parents will do anything to create a brighter future for their children...even stand up to the slaveholder.
The children go to school for the first time ever. They learn to read and write and they leanr their rights. The adults in the village learn that what is happening to them is illegal and if they stand together they will be freed from slavery. The parents learn how to access government programs designed to support the poorest people in India. They get identification cards, food and medical benefits. In short they learn how to grab freedom and how to stay free.
The School4Freedom had been operating for just seven months. when this video was taken in October 2018.
Already:
*81 villagers have come to freedom - the number was 60 when we visited in October. 21 one other villagers came to freedom by November.
*8 children who had been trafficked to other states have been found and reunited with their parents.
*18 families qualified for new houses under a government program.
Education is key.
