'We are not Princesses' is a documentary feature directed by Bridgette Auger and Itab Azzam. I directed the animated segments that support and thread through the film. It tells the unusual story of 35 Syrian refugee women invited to participate in a theatre program in Shatilla Camp, Beruit. Through this workshop, they learned about theatre, creative expression, community, and the tragic story of Antigone. As they reflected on the story and their perspectives as Antigone, they shaped the stories of their own lives to present in their first professional theatre production. This documentary chronicles the behind-the-scenes process of the whole experience, closely tracking five amazing, inspiring women and their personal journeys.
