Light. Dark. Action
An interactive performance
(2011)
Conceived and performed by
Whitney V. Hunter
Score: Matthew Ferry
Digital Media Technologist: Ed Stone French
About the work:
White light from a single projector reveals a black figure on the plane of the white stage space. The light, which is triggered by the movement of the figure, slowly fades to black once the figure returns to stillness. The presence of the figure, revealed by the triggered projector’s light, is a visual stimulus by which the imagination of the viewer is charged. “I see the work as an act of performance, where physical action is my essential concern rather than any strict, linear narrative, and the stage is a site which is activated through this act of doing.”
This work was commissioned in part by Thelma Hill Performing Arts Center. Additional funding has been made possible by the Puffin Foundation.
