On Saturday 15 December 2018 the curtain was raised for the first time at the Cairns Performing Arts Centre (CPAC).
The building was officially opened by His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC, Governor of Queensland. Also in attendance was the Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack, Queensland and Arts Minister Leeanne Enoch.
A cast of about 500 local performers starred in the gala event, Symphony for Tomorrow.
The Cairns Performing Arts Centre was jointly funded by Cairns Regional Council, the Queensland Government and the Australian Government.
