Early each morning Harry James Frank, 86, descends the stairway to his basement; a room more appropriately referred to as a "radio museum." He quietly, almost reverently strolls past hundreds of antique radios, ultimately entering his congested yet orderly workshop. He will spend the day repairing, testing and lovingly restoring yet another relic of antiquity to its former glory. For the majority of his life, Mr. Frank has been like a tireless sentry, holding back the tide of years as rust, decay and human disinterest threaten to obliterate this dying art. But he knows his days are fleeting, so he wonders: who will keep these tubes radiating for generations to come?
