The American University of Beirut (AUB) set out on a mission to transform IT into a partner with the academic units to help transform teaching, research, student life and patient care at AUB. This mission was particularly ambitious, given that IT had been going through a serious leadership and credibility crisis within AUB. Through systematic team building, infrastructure upgrades, and operational focus, we have been able to change IT from the “whipping boy” at AUB to a trusted partner with the faculty and researchers. We are now being asked to participate in curriculum development, the design and implementation of teaching and research services, and in the process transformations as a whole at AUB.
This presentation will describe AUB IT’s vision, the challenges faced, and how they were able to transform IT from a service provider to a true research and teaching partner.
