At our Robe Offering Ceremony in the Kathina Season, Ajahn Kalyano explains the lifestyle of Forest Monks. Already the Buddha himself had all the main events in his life happeneing in the forest (birth, supreme awakening, first teaching and Parinibbāna). The Forest Tradition has ever since maintained close connection to nature, for the sake of the manyfold benefits life in the wilderness imparts on our practice of meditation.
Ajahn Kalyano is the abbot of Buddha Bodhivana Monastery in Warburton near Melbourne, and serves as the preceptor ('upajjhāya') for the tradition of Ajahn Chah in Australia.
