We got the chance to visit with Team USA Para-Surfing athlete, Sarah Bettencourt, shortly after she won the silver medal in the Women’s AS-4 division championship and a Team USA gold medal at the 2018 Stance ISA Adaptive Surfing World Championships in La Jolla, Calif.
Bettencourt was one of two dozen women from across the globe who took part in the five-day event. Overall, La Jolla Shores saw more than 120 adaptive athletes (male and female) from 24 nations.
Surfing will make its debut at the 2020 Olympics in Japan and the Para-surfing community will be watching closely as they push to get Para-Surfing included into the lineup for the 2024 Paralympics in France.
