For the first time in Australian skateboarding history we’ve held our very own national Pro/Am Tour, which has led us here, to the grand finale: THE ISLAND, where we will officially crown the 2011 Oz Champion.
We started out with Billabong’s City Squared event where SAM GILES’ onslaught of burl over the chasm of doom just edged out the precision attack of TOMMY FYNN. However, only a couple of months later it was Fynn who had his day on the raw street terrain of SbA’s Shocklands course in Melbourne’s Dockland’s precinct, beating professional CHIMA FERGUSON who blew the crowd’s minds fresh off the hype of his groundbreaking Real video part.
Along the way we’ve also witnessed the creative style and flow of JACK KIRK, the underdog pop and flair of Brizzie’s JOEL ‘JMAC’ MCILROY, and the beastly consistency and fearlessness of Eden’s REECE WARREN (2011 SbA Am Series Winner and ‘Wildcard’ Tour entrant).
COCKATOO ISLAND, in Sydney Harbour – where convicts were once imprisoned and ships were once built, will, on December 10, play host to the cream of the crop of Australia’s elite skateboarding talent.
On a course designed in close consultation with the competitors themselves, SbA will offer up a spectacle of skateboarding insanity! Whether you’re into tech or burl, right angles or curves, with 40 of our most legitimate Aussie shredders mixing it against the pristine backdrop of the iconic Sydney Harbour, this is sure to be one day in Oz skateboarding history you don’t want to miss.
