Approx. 31 minutes. Movie 2006. Commentary 2011. Canadian. Written and directed by Shaun MacLellan. Recorded with Sony PD-150 miniDV camcorder. Edited with Avid Xpress DV and Final Cut Pro.
I was originally opposed to doing a director's commentary to accompany From Far and Wide, but decided years later (in 2011), finally, to do one, not so much for viewers as for myself, who, as the years pass by, forgets more and more of those special moments and fond memories of the actual shoot. The clean version of the movie without the commentary is also here on Vimeo.
Five young and inexperienced Canadian soldiers become lost behind enemy lines during the Second World War's Allied invasion of Normandy. When one of them is shot and killed by a sniper, the remaining four must combine their wits to reach safe ground and locate him. The deadly marksmen, however, is a fifteen year-old Hitler Youth, and the task of taking him out will prove more difficult than anticipated.
