A revolving disc drone synthesizer.
Inspired by the glass harmonica and the droning of shruti boxes and harmoniums.
It takes 22 seconds to make a complete rotation of a disc. The eight discs control the volume of eight oscillators based on their distance to eight infrared phototransistors.
Using only these eight oscillators, an eight bar pattern was composed on computer with every sounding of of a note recreated onto the appropriate location of the appropriate disc.
Created and composed by g.wygonik throughout 2018 using a Teensy 3.6 with audio board, eight Fairchild QRD1114 sensors, a small motor, and laser-cut hardboard and acrylic.
