James H. "Jim" Burke, Jr., who is the Managing Assistant Federal Public Defender for the Jacksonville Division of the Federal Public Defender's Office, Middle District of Florida, flew with me to Tallahassee, Florida today to visit with retired Florida State University Law Professor William VanDercreek to discuss my working on two pro bono cases Professor VanDercreek as had for several years. Due to health issues, Professor VanDercreek was looking to find someone to take over the responsibility for the two cases. We had an enjoyable meeting with Professor VanDercreek, whom I met for the first time, and his wife, Kay. Professor VanDercreek for many years was considered the dean of federal procedure, and was noted for his work both in and outside the classroom. It was a privilege to get to meet this great lawyer.
Jim and I and attorney Marlow "Buster" White of Tallahassee, who has a long association with Professor VanDercreek, then adourned to Shell Oyster Bar, 114 Oakland Avenue, in Tallahassee for some oysters, shrimp, french fries and hush puppies. The Shell Oyster Bar is going to be my "go to" place to eat from now on in Tallahassee.
This is a video of our approach and landing at Tallahassee Regional Airport, Runway 27. We had a direct cross wind; the airport was using both runways 27 and 36 but gave us the cross wind runway to save us time, it was straight in for us coming from the East.
