This is the story of the Foundstrument Soundstrument, two sound creatures built at the Rhode Island School of Design, in over four months in 2010. The beings took three months to build and were biked/transported to CityArts, where classes were taught and there was a percussive painting performance/installation for three weeks. The Foundstrument then moved to the Providence Children's Museum, where there was a two day exhibition where hundreds of children got to make percussive murals. Two of Big Nazo's Creature Creation creatures performed at the museum for the finale of the exhibition.
The Foundstrument Soundstrument needed a home. They were taken to the Rhode Island Recycling for Education Center as a permanent installation where children can play and take classes daily. Recently, the Foundstrument Soundstrument was moved to Spark Studios in Massachusetts on a temporary exhibition where afterschool classes are taught every day.
The Foundstrument Soundstrument was a collaboration between mediums, artists, and over 4 classes at RISD. The following RISD departments were included in this project: Painting, Glass, Ceramics, Sculpture, Industrial Design, Illustration's dumpster, Second Life, RISD Facilities, Public Safety, Liberal Arts, Art History, Cinematographic History, Art Education, Community Arts, and Film/Animation/Video.
Thank you to all the beautiful creatures who brought these living monstrosities into the world.
