Houston Center for Photography is pleased to present a lecture and book signing with Marfa-based photographer, Matthew Genitempo, discussing his recent body of work, Jasper. Nominated for The Paris Photo-Aperture Foundation PhotoBook Award's Fist PhotoBook Prize, Jasper presents the otherworldly environment of a semi-fictional place located deep in the woods of the Ozarks. The imagery fluctuates between detailed depictions of the men inhabiting Jasper in total solitude and the hazy, romanticized landscape in which they live. Teetering the line between fact and fiction, Genitempo’s Jasper further investigates his own intrigue and fascination about escaping the everyday, revealing the reality and myths of what it means to be truly independent from society
