Quantum Computing or: "Quantum Chat Room"
Concepts for Quantum Computing in Condensed Matter

After introduction of the basic concepts of quantum computing this contribution will focus on concrete condensed matter model systems for implementation of quantum information technologies. Proper candidates for quantum bits will be presented and their basic features will be discussed such as coherence times and manipulation times, from which perspectives and drawbacks of the corresponding approaches may be derived. Examples for such excitations are excitons in semiconductor quantum dots or spin excitations confined in such dot structures or related to nitrogen vacancies in diamond. Subsequently strategies towards entanglement of these quantum bits will be discussed.
