DIY Scientist is a video installation wherein I am using my body as source material for performative role playing and scientific experiment. Through the internet we are able to order prescription drugs, blood tests, pregnancy tests, and genetic testing material. This piece examines our roles as homemade scientists and the multitude of implications within. Through a study of myself performing the online tests I am examining the sterility of the over the counter tests, the reminder that we become faceless numbers to lab techs on the other side of the world. When these repetitive motions are slowed down and shown in close up, their sensuality contrasts with the coldness of the circumstances. Instead, the physical repetitive motion reminds of our bodies, the act of procreation, the reminder that we do not exist outside the realm of the corporal.
