“Kathleen Hermesdorf is the most intense, gnarly, sexy sprite to tear across a stage.” – San Francisco Metropolitan
Velocity’s 2011 Artist in Residence Amy O’Neal and San Francisco dance luminary Kathleen Hermesdorf pair-up for a week of classes and collaboration culminating in an evening of new works in a co-production with AmyO/tiny rage.
Amy O’Neal’s The Most Innovative, Daring, and Original Piece of Dance/Performance You Will See this Decade is a non verbal lecture demonstration/dance experience, deconstructing her past and recent influences (Hip Hop culture, classicism, Big Boi, Cyndi Lauper, MTV, YouTube, money, feminism, Dub Step . . . ). And asks: What sells more? Sex? Skill? Big ideas? The Diva? Nostalgia? Tyger, Tyger is a solo by Kathleen Hermesdorf with a live score by Albert Mathias. The piece is inspired by a poem by William Blake and part of a larger project titled songs of innocence & experience. Saturday’s performance is followed by a dance party!
“An astounding hip-hop dancer, Amy O’Neal, is so magnetically creative on her feet that for a few minutes she manages to steal the focus away from Mr (Reggie). Watts.”- New York Times, 2008
