January 2019. Josh Mumm and I met at Kenai Lake to find 3 miles of frozen ice. The highlight was the rapidly deteriorating leading edge... strong winds from the southeast caused waves and cracking. The ice was thick enough, ~6 inches, that the broken plates were limited to bobbing up and down, which meant we could skate them. We enjoyed a tailwind to the river outlet, then a quad burner to return to our cars.
