This video features the Saskatchewan-based artist Jeff Nachtigall. Jeff was making a series of bold paintings based on Bush's questionable "Shock and Awe" war campaign, at the time. He translated his bold painting style into a hockey playing bear persona who eats the self-portraits of the artist. Read into it what you will!
The video is a part of my project called Bulk Bin made during The Big Rock Candy Mountain Residency at The Banff Centre for The Arts in 2003. Everyday I would broadcast a new video on line, mimicking the production pace of television (sort of). All the work is on video and shot and edited in a quick and dirty way. I often collaborated with the other artists in the residency.
trivia: The audio clip comes from Bahamian musical superstar Ronnie Butler's cover of "Echoes of My Mind". I love this song and I love Ronnie. A couple of years later I was in Nassau shooting a film with a number of Bahamian artists, I tried really hard to get Ronnie involved. I almost had him, but he got sick the day of and had to cancel.
