In our age of techno-utopianism, gadget fetishization, and Silicon Valley “disruption,” so often the benefits of technological advancement are uncritically accepted while ignoring the broader societal implications. Drawing from Keith Spencer’s A People’s History of Silicon Valley, published in November 2018 by Eyewear Press, this synth-pop infused theater piece from Casual FreyDay (Julia Frey and Sam Day Harmet) explores the inequalities and myopia of the tech world. With a tuneful satirical narrative and rich multimedia environment, we set out to scrutinize and challenge techno-utopianism using its very tools.
A People's History of Silicon Valley will be the first show of ANT Fest 2019, Ars Nova's Annual Festival of All New Talent. Tickets and info are at arsnovanyc.com/antfest
