25th Red Bull Dolomitenmann 2012 (07.09.2012 - 09.09.2012)
110 teams, 440 athletes, 3 elements, 60 km route und 6700 difference in altitude meet incalculable winds and rapid white water make the Dolomitenmann to what it is - "the world's toughest team relay race".
The Red Bull Dolomitenmann has written sports history in the last 25 years and made Lienz to the birthplace of extreme sport. The idea was crazy back then in 1987 and many people smiled at the idea of the former professional skier. "Grizzly's" idea of a team relay was raising different arguments. Even its inventor was sceptic when only six teams registered four days before the premiere of this event in 1988. In the end a total of 40 teams participated and the reputation of Grissmann was renewed.
Now, 25 years later, the Red Bull Dolomite Man is counting to the most popular sports events in the world and throws its light on athletes, proud of their skills in mountain running, paragliding, white water kayaking and mountain biking. In the last few years, world champions, pro as well as amateurs and celebrities have been trying to overcome their inner temptation and to fight against the forces of nature. Meanwhile, over 300 participants per year from all over the world are applying for a starting place. What is more, brother-events in America, Italy, France, South America and South Africa have taken place as preliminary competitions for the champion ships in Lienz.
Due to the long tradition of the Red Bull Dolomite Man and the steady growth of this event, it is today more than just an event. Two open air concerts at the main square of Lienz, spectator hot spots, VIPs from whole Europe, parties and special performances by extreme sports athletes such as Hannes Arch, offer an amazing show which is open for everyone.
