One of the most disingenuine parts of the Smart Approaches to Marijuana MN (SAMMn) lobbying efforts at the Minnesota State Capitol on January 16, 2018 was the way they implied, speaker after speaker, that legalizing cannabis for adult use would cause rates of Driving Under the Influence (DUI) "skyrocket". This clip features 2 prohibition lobbyists, Sandy Melville and James Backstrom (Dakota County Prosecutor), equating DUI arrests and traffic fatalities with cannabis use. Not only did they fail to point out that alcohol is the most likely source of driving impairment, they continually implied that cannabis was, and will be, the sourge of our roadways.
Luckily, the Cannabis Coalition MN had Defense Attorney Tom Gallagher to speak the truth about impared driving and the influence of alcohol vs cannabis. Unlike the prohibitionists, Tom cited the unbiased evidence of the National Hiway & Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that there was no direct correlation between levels of THC in the blood and driving impairment. In great contrast with the results for blood alcohol content (BAC)and impaired driving.
Listen and learn to see through the veil of lies and innuendo spread by SAMMn and the Dakota County Prosecutor.
