breakin after 6 hours of knitting!
Knitting Nation is a durational performance by Liz Collins who, in the company of 4 other women, spent the day (10am-5pm) operating industrial knitting machines that require the operator to glide a device back and forth as the knitted sections grow longer. Each piece fed into one giant pile, growing from every direction. The motion is very much like a dance as each person did it to her own pace and form (two ladies even got through all of their spools!) This performance was part of a larger show at the ICA called Dance/Draw that that I happen to be performing at in the main galleries ; ) Knitting Nation was a fascinating addition to a show about movement and points in space!
