3D Display for Architecture and Town Planning
During the 15th OSSA Workshops, which took place in Warsaw on the 23th-30th of October, we attempted to come up with new town planning solutions for an area between the Copernicus Science Centre and University of Warsaw Library. Located on the bank of the Vistula River and just next to the city centre, this area have a high potential to create and foster possibilities for social interaction, leisure and entertainment space. In order to conduct a democratic and efficient design process in our group, we decided to develop a special, three-dimensional visualization device. The machine we created is a simplified, low resolution, animated 3D holographic projection controlled from the level of the virtual 3D model of the environment in which we are designing. For the following days of the workshops, the 3D display mounted on a physical model of the area of our interest was used as a platform to exchange ideas between members of our group and then, finally, to present their completed version to the audience. We presented an abstract weather machine installation, a detailed analysis of possible town planning solutions for this site, different light installation plans for the cultural events organized, a virtual sketchbook showing different geometries and their impact on this particular space and studies on the volumes and functions in this area.
