Pianist, improviser and composer Gabriela Montero introduces Babel, her gripping new piece for piano and string orchestra.
Babel is a colourful and inventive portrait of Gabriela's experiences as a human rights activist for Venezuela. Using richly metaphorical musical language, Gabriela manages to convey her experience of trying to get across urgent messages in a world which wants only to talk, not listen.
The European premiere tour takes place from 8-16 February, calling at Glasgow Royal Concert Halls (8 Feb), Eden Court Inverness (10 Feb), The Queen's Hall Edinburgh (12 Feb), Perth Concert Hall (13 Feb), Kings Place London (15 Feb) and Kendal Leisure Centre (16 Feb).
Babel was co-commissioned by Scottish Ensemble, Kings Place and ProMusica Chamber Orchestra.
