This video is a collaboration between photographer, Michelle Havens and visual artist, Byron Sletten. It is part of their 2018 Artist-in-Residence grant, sponsored by the Petrified Forest National Park.
The project uses the unique beauty of the Petrified Forest and its surrounding Painted Desert, as well as historical photos to frame how the land influenced culture, agriculture and sustenance.
Thanks to Park archaeologist, Bill Reitze and rancher Brantley Baird, for weaving a series of vignettes and putting this evolution into context.
