Postulating truth as an unwelcome and awkwardly tenacious party-crasher, Y inhabits the liminal realm between memory and fantasy. Simplifying through rigorous distillation, Jonathan Meyer proffers a potently stark choreography. Depicting characters generated from a personal retrospection of dubious veracity, Y examines Meyer's own shifting relationship to dance over the last two decades.
Deepening the collaboration begun in The Waking Room, Y features original music from composer Christopher Preissing, with manipulated field recordings and a live vocal ensemble. Y also features costumes from Katrin Schnabl and a unique lighting design by Jonathan Meyer.
Presented by Khecari, this is the second installation in a three-part series of solos for Meyer. Begun at 2010's The Other Dance Festival, the Home series will culminate in an August performance.
