This is the building instruction animation for the little submarine of the first ever and award winning cd-rom that was shipped in the LEGO Technic “Nautilus” (8299) box.
On the actual cd-rom the user was able to click through, step by step and scrub back and forth.
I modeled the entire submarine in Softimage in 1995 but we were not able to render that much data in Mental Ray nor Softimage's native renderer. We had to switch to Alias Power Animator and model all the bricks again. Which I did for the most part. Once we got up and running we had up to 4 animators working on creating the building instruction animations plus many other animations for the cd-rom.
I did the building instructions of the main model, the submarine, and then I switched to coordinating the asset deliveries at the developers studio in the Netherlands.
