This video was filmed in Yakima Washington a sister city of Morelia, México in October 2011. Morelia is my hometown that for many years I used to take my Spanish students to experience the Night of the Dead in October and November. They would practice Spanish meanwhile they were immersed in the Mexican reality. Thanks to them I was able to make a film that I called Night of the Dead through Canadian Eyes in 2008. This year, thanks to the invitation of Noe Gutierrez President of Yakima - Morelia Sister City Association I was able to attend some events related to¨El Dia de los Muertos¨in Yakima on the last weekend of October, 2011. I was fascinated to discover a fusion of cultures. Therefore I decide to join all these images that I captured and to share with you.
The main reason that I like to call my videos ¨Night of the Dead through Canadian Eyes,¨ and ¨Día de Muertos through American Eyes,¨ is precisely the show my students the combination of cultures together in one particular event.
I hope you will enjoy this video and any comments that would contribute to improve my teaching videos are welcome. I´m a Spanish teacher who use the video as a main tool to teach my first language by using images that just tell interesting and amazing stories.
