I am working on a documentary of some elite warriors who train hard while they are not down range fighting for our freedom. This is a test video to get some ideas of what we can do for a segment of the doc.
There is a lot I will change when we go do the real shoot based on what I learned while out filming on the range.
This was done with the following:
Canon 5D mkii with 50mm 1.4 lens
GoPro on custom cable cam. (First time I used)
Kessler Crane KC-Lite
Kessler Crane Philip Bloom Pocket Dolly
Some things that I learned during this quick test:
1. With cable cam, shadows make a huge difference during the afternoon, will have to shoot at magic hour. The final version will be done with the Canon 5D on the wire.
2. I thought going in that I would have to use a lot of motion on the camera, slider/jib but I think a little more would be good, but static shots are nice with all the movement of the shooters.
3. Need to bring a Canon 7D to get some more slow motion from camera and and slow down with twixtor in post.
4. Need to bring audio levels up on the shotgun mic to get a better gun shot sound.
Next test shoot is in a large training pool. Can't wait to get the 5D wet.
PLEASE GIVE ME FEEDBACK ON WHERE I CAN IMPROVE, ETC.
