By now it should be obvious that the prohibition lobbyists from Smart Approaches to Marijuana MN (SAMMn) will lie and misrepresent data in order to sustain cannabis prohibition and maintain their lines of profit. So the crooked logic highlighted in this short video clip from the January 16, 2019 back-to-back press conferences with the pro-legalization Minnesotans Against Prohibition coalition is like icing on the cake or gilding on a lily.
First up - Kim Bemis, CEO of an on-line counselling company that profits from prohibition of cannabis because it is focused on underage users. Listen carefully to his misleading spiel. Note that he makes absolutely no effort to break-down the "increased" costs of "support services" in Colorado after legalization of cannabis. Nor does he explain how legalizing cannabis resulted in increased education costs or costs for criminal justice. How would removing a crime from the books increase the cost of policing? It is illogical, Kim.
Luckily, we have Javier Arenado to set the record straight about the many ways that the legal cannabis industry has benefitted Colorado. It created jobs and gave incentives to rehab empty industrial and retails space.
Then Dana Stevens from SAMMN stepped to the microphone to complain that the legal cannabis sector in California has raised "only" $234, 000, 000 for the State. In what universe is more tax money a problem? Besides, prohibition generates ZERO tax dollars. She also complains that Big Agribusiness is taking over cannabis production in CA. That is not a problem of legal cannabis, that is a problem of ineffective regulation. If that really bothers her, I suggest she spend he time lobbying the CA legislature to take steps to protect and support smaller growers, rather than traveling to MN to lobby our legislators to maintain prohibition.
