2018 I was asked to help finishing the grade for the film “Gold” as the schedule was very tight and still a lot of VFX was pending.
The project was moved to Futureworks Mumbai from a facility in London and I was actually the 5th colorist on the project and we had less than one week to finish the grade before the final DCP.
A lot of VFX shots were yet to come in and I ended up grading 3 Reels in 3 days and checking some of the already graded scenes.
The already set up timelines used the TCAM DRT which is great for multiple deliveries but hasn’t a very pleasing highlight and shadow rolloff.
TCam is meant to be used in combination with a look operator/LMT.
I suggested to regrade certain parts for the digital delivery with a mix of LMTs to get a more filmic look, especially for the skin tones.
After the cinema release I was booked to fine grade (and regrade some scenes) for the digital delivery.
All shots shown here were regraded by me for the digital version to get a more balanced and filmic look.
