Most thru hikers, including me, stayed in Idyllwild as bad weather hit the San Jacinto Wilderness. Afterward it passed, we had to navigate the forest along the peaks that had become caked in ice by the winter storm. The mild weather that followed the storm offered fantastic views, but caused a dangerous situation: the ice would break off the trees unexpectedly in blocks as big as microwaves.
