As the title states, this is a video demonstrating some very basic techniques with the RODE VideoMic using a minimalist setup of the Canon HV30, VideoMic, and an 8 ft. shielded extension cable. The intent is to show not only the capabilities of the VideoMic using only these things, but also how drastically your technique alone can affect the results you achieve with your audio.
After seeing many less-than-descriptive test videos of the mic and hearing a lot of debate as to its capabilities, I decided to make a bit more of a comprehensive demonstration and provide more details about each configuration tested in the hopes that it would give folks a better platform to make a decision on whether it's the right mic for their needs. Please bear in mind that you are hearing the mic through the camera's built-in preamp which is sterile and somewhat noisy. I hope to provide more demos in the future running the same mic through separate recording interfaces to illustrate what's possible when it's used independently of the camera.
Please leave any feedback or questions you have, and thanks for watching!
