Advance planning documents have been promoted by the law and health professions for nearly a half a century, and yet, only one in three US adults have created any sort of advance planning document. This Legal Basics webcast will cut through some of the confusion surrounding advance planning documents and health care decision-making. Focusing on financial planning and health care, the program will explain how creating these documents can further the dual goals of assuring that the clients’ wishes are honored and reduce the risk of abuse and exploitation. The webcast will examine the following:
• Financial planning: The basics of direct deposit, automatic payments, powers of attorney, authorized signers on accounts, and how to set up basic oversight of financial affairs.
• Health care advanced planning: Living wills, powers of attorney and other documents appointing a health care agent.
The webcast will provide a basic overview and will include a detailed Chapter Summary with additional information.
