Mountain Ghosts is a site-specific, location-sensitive participatory audio installation by Halsey Burgund. It was commissioned by the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs and was installed on campus from September to November 2011.
A musical composition is virtually embedded into the landscape along with the voices of previous participants. The voices inhabit the locations where they were recorded, enabling participants to 'tag' the landscape and add to an ever-evolving site-specific history of experience in the shadow of the Rockies.
This video attempts to recreate the experience of Mountain Ghosts with sample audio and accompanying video clips from the UCCS site (but it accepts that it cannot be the same as the real thing!).
There is a sister video that explains more about what Mountain Ghosts is and how it works, cleverly titled "Mountain Ghosts (the explanation)".
