This short film is based on a chapter of the novel "The Witch Of Portobello" by Paulo Coelho, published in 2007. The film tells the story of the relationship between Athena (the Witch) and Nabil Alaihi (the Calligrapher).
Athena is a young Romanian woman who travels to Arabia with her young son Viorel. She is introduced to Nabil, a Bedouin who lives alone in the desert and practices Arabic calligraphy. She asks Nabil to teach her his art and he, with misgivings, agrees. Later Athena's hidden agenda emerges, with disastrous consequences ...
The scenes were shot among the red dunes near Madam, in Sharjah Emirate, in 2008.
The original film was produced by Buthaina Al Marri and directed by Maitha Bin Demithan. This is an "actor's cut", edited by Robert Isaac Harker.
