[class project. fun to make]
Here is my recut of the 2001 film Vanilla Sky. I used the audio from the 1994 film The Mask to guide the recut. The two are very different films with a common theme. Cameron Diaz was also a shared point of interest :) Using the audio from The Mask with the images from Vanilla Sky gave this already dark film a whole new strangeness, and that's what I was going for. It wasn't supposed to be 100% comedy, but rather enhance the dreamy weirdness of Vanilla Sky in a new way. I also tried to match details whenever I could, from the time remapping of the Paramount logo/intro to editing the accuracy of the main character...
I wasn't able to iron out some of the details and two of the segments I'm not happy with so I will be returning to this shortly.
After drawing the fonts in Illustrator, the 3D text was created in After Effects following this tutorial: graymachine.com/2009/11/retro-style-graphics
** A note about the audio matching (or not) in the 'landlord' scene: I was getting too detailed trying to sync the dialogue and it just wasn't working so I had to move on to other details instead. I used the layer transparencies to sort of go along with the dream-like feel of Vanilla Sky. The scene in my trailer is weird anyway (was going for that) because her lips don't even move when she says "WHAT". Bad/strange dream idea. I thought it would work out but after viewing the finished render, yeah that's one of the parts I need to go back to because it does stand out. Thanks for the feedback
