Pacific Islanders discuss the future direction of their economies in this era of increased economic globalization at the first ever Moana Nui Conference this week. Conference organizer and University of Hawaii at Mānoa Professor Jonathan K. Osorio offers a sneak peek at what the conference has to offer.
Moana Nui is free and open to the public this November 9 & 10, 2011. The conference is brought to you by a Hawaii-based collective of scholars, cultural practitioners and political activists, in partnership with the International Forum on Globalization. Organizers scheduled the event at the same time as the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meetings in order cast light upon concerns they have over the effects of globalization on countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
