As part of my news coverage of 2009 - the International Year of Astronomy, I filmed and photographed Saturn on Wednesday, 11th February.
Things were not easy... After what had been a beautiful day with clear blue skies, I set the telescope up and a cloud appeared exactly where Saturn was located. The nearly full moon and a street lamp made matters worse and during the first break in the cloud, having waited for half an hour for Saturn to emerge, my computer crashed. I eventually filmed Saturn after midnight.
It was well worth the wait! I was not expecting to see Saturn's rings as they are edge on to Earth at the moment but my telescope picked them out quite easily.
The film ends with Saturn's moon, Titan. I had to over expose Saturn to photograph this.
