On Monday, November 7, 2011, hundreds of Northern Manhattan residents marched from Washington Heights to Zuccotti Park in solidarity with the Occupy Wall Street movement. As the protesters made the 11-mile trek downtown, the crowd swelled to more than 1000 people. On their way, marchers passed more than a dozen NYCHA public housing developments.
The march, dubbed “End to End for 99%,” sought to incorporate more black and Latino voices. The 99 percent refers to anyone who earns less than $500,000 a year. Protesters said they are feeling the effects of severe unemployment, economic disparity and corporate greed.
